Andrew Zuidema, an undergraduate sophomores
studying at the New England College in New Hampshire
trying to get his B.S. in Environmental Studies and a
minor degree in the Arts, also happens to be my younger
brother. Since Andrew is studying at a different college
than UMF, I talked to him about how he goes through
the process of choosing housing and how he chooses
classes that correspond with his major.
Erin: Andrew, what is it like living on campus at
New England College?
Andrew: It’s great living on campus because of the land surrounding
the college. The college is in the middle of nowhere and is surrounding
by forest and the river cutting through the college.
Erin: It is difficult going through the process of choosing what dorm/hall you
want to live in?
Andrew: Yes, because everyone on campus wants a single room and with the
double rooms you can’t tell who you would be rooming with.
Erin: Is the process of choosing a roommate just as difficult?Andrew: Not so
much. If you have a friend that wanted to be your roommate you
would have to get the room together and with the new natural dorm
this year both male and female can room together.Erin: Interesting, is
their any advise that you would like to give to fellow undergraduates
when you are going through this housing process?
Andrew: Don’t worry about the roommate. You get to live with them until you
know there bad habits and their good ones. If you can’t live with that
then get a new room with or without a new roommate.
Erin: How do you go about choosing classes that correspond with you
major/degree?
Andrew: Start with the ones you think you can handle then work your way up
from their towards the harder level classes.
Erin: Is their any advice that you would like to give that would help
undergraduates in general?
Andrew: Study your butt off because college is hard and it will get you stressed
out with the work that your professors give you.
